I think it's an excellent story. My favorite out of the entire series so far (I'm on book four). Rick Riordan ends his chapters with minor cliffhangers. You always want to know what happens next. Ending on a chapter is hard because you want to keep going. Some of my favorite scenes were when Percy chopped off Medusa's head and when he jumped off St. Louis' Arch and at the end when he went to Olympus to deliver the lightning bolt. The ending was a little weak, but overall I was pretty happy. I give The Lightning Thief between 4 and 4.5 treasure chests.
