As a proud book/movie skipper I feel my cookies are deserved. Here's why:
1. The mystery is still there but in a more exciting way- you want to know the events which lead to Jim Bob having a black scar on his face and walking mournfully out to the horizon. You want to know what could have happened in just one little book to cause such big character development (development you wouldn't notice without skipping). It's like on TV when they start an episode with it's climax and flashback a few days to show how it got there.
2. Rereading a book is never a waste of time
3. Not much to counter here except that if I found a cat I'd want to know where it came from.
4. Knowing the ending while others don't is possibly the most amazing sensation EVER. Waiting for them to reach it, not knowing of the shocking events and seeing their reaction is thrilling. So I wouldn't ever spoil it for them.
5. It prevents you from over setting your expectations like I did with Hotel Rwanda- wish I'd skipped to the end there first. Same with the My Sister's Keeper movie.

Bit ranty I know but do things backwards for reason :)
